    "Authorized User" question

My father wants to put me on his Discover card as an authorized user. He is elderly and I'm his caregiver, and it would make it much easier to buy his groceries, make other purchases etc.

He does NOT know about my BK and this is one thing I wanted to keep from him.

Does anyone know if cc companies check the credit of authorized users? I would hate to have him get a letter in the mail saying my use of his card was turned down, and why.

Note that this is for "authorized user," NOT "joint user" or one who's name would also liable for the account.

    TIA.

When I worked at Lowe's Home improvement in the customer service area, we did NOT do a credit check for authorized user. We didn't even ask them for their SSN unless it was joint.

Not sure how other CC work, though.

Perhaps you could try and if they ask for your social security number, then just decline yourself and say you changed your mind??

Cassiopeia, I am pretty sure that no credit check will be done on your for this, since you are NOT responsible. This will be good for you, since you could use it for an occasional expense and then just pay him back.

For us about to be discharged, it will likely be several months before we will be approved for a credit card - at least not one with predatory fees!
