    FICO through WaMu shows 690!

Up from 635 last month, so I am very pleased and hope that the recovery continues to go well. Our Chapter 7 was discharged & closed in January of 2007 and I haven't done anything to clean up my credit except except pull my credit reports and then dispute once (on-line & denied) one 30 day-late entry as showed up for October of 2006, which was after our filing date on September. That was the only negative on the CR other than the BK.

Just to provide some background, my wife and I filed in September of 2006 after I found out that my wife, due to mental illness, had run up about $114,00 in unsecured credit card debt, 90% of which I had been clueless about up until the bottom fell out. The BK went very smoothly and I am very thankful for that, only wishing that I had found this forum sooner as it has been very educational and many of the concerns and fears that I experienced early on in the BK process would have been mitigated by my knowing sooner what I have learned here.

There have been some ups and downs, but I applied for and received Cap 1 ($3500 limit) and WaMu ($2000 limit) cards within a couple of months of discharge (no fee for either one) and I have either paid them off in full every month or paid well over the minimum if carrying a balance (as I currently am due to using the Cap 1 for a number of necessary car repairs) and I have continued to have our Wells Fargo mortgage payment taken directly from checking (mortgage will be paid off in June of 2008). Our vehicles are all older, the newest being a 1995 Caprice wagon that I paid $1000.00 cash for this spring (I absolutely love that car as it has an LT1 corvette engine, drives like new, and gets better than 20mpg), and I do all of the repairs myself (ex-farm boys can generally fix ANYTHING).

I apologize that this post is lengthy, or if I come across like I'm bragging, but I just wanted to share my good news with someone and I've been lurking here long enough that some of the regulars seem like old friends. October has already been a tough month, with my Mom going through her second round of chemo and radiation treatments after beng diagnosed two months ago with lung cancer that has spread to her brain (she has the best attitude though and is just thankful that she no longer needs to worry about getting Alzheimers), I just buried my uncle last Friday, and my wife continues to battle depression and had to undergo a two-day stress-test for her heart within the last two weeks. I needed something to cheer about and once that thing came along I just couldn't keep it to myself.

Hang in there and good luck to all. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for letting me share.

Thank you for your encouraging news. I am facing bankruptcy now and I feel almost ashamed at some of the decisions I've made, mostly bad investments. I feel that Bankruptcy is the only thing that will help me sleep better at night and let me have my family back. I have went over this option many times in my head due to me always caring about my scores which are in the high 700 and I know what kind of hit they are about to take. So thank you for sharing your good news, it makes me really see the light at the end of the tunnel in hopes all is not bad after all.

I'm so sorry about your mother and your uncle!

Wonderful post, other than that, and great news. Encouraging posts are so important. There are so many newcomers here who have not yet made the decision to actually file and are very scared, others that just filed and are facing a terrifying 341.....or worried about creditor objections. It's vital that we all, who have gone through it ourselves, encourage others. This forum is invaluable!

Good luck to all. BK is NOT the end of the world, and in most cases turns out to be not only a "fresh start" but the best decision you ever made for yourself.

Now you can concentrate on the important stuff like Mom and your wife.
