I'd have to say BOA, although it might have been MBNA when the same thing happened to me as pa308 - they kept upping my limit then whamo, my interest was raised thru the roof and they wouldn't do anything at all. I put it on a debt management plan for 6% interest but had to pay $193 a month and now I'm glad I'm filing on them! I only wish I'd have done it sooner.

For me, Citibank. Yes, we made irresponsible decisions. However, every time we could come close to our limit, rather than cutting us back, they would up our limit. We paid mine off. However, both my husband and I had $25K limits before we were 30. It was like giving alcohol to an alcoholic. Then when times got tough, at the first late payment the rate went from 9.9% to 27% after more than 10 years of excellent payment history with them.

For me it was a home health care agency. When I was pregnant with my last son, I threw up so much I needed a PICC line for 24 hour infusions. The nurses who came were all wonderful but this company has some issues. When they would call for a supply update- I would very specifically tell them what I needed. They proceeded to send me 3-4 times that amount. Once it was in my posession they wouldnt take it back. When all was said and done, even after insurance, I owed over 3k. I called several times for an itemized bill- but they refused and only ever sent me a balance due. I told them repeatedly that I would not pay a dime until I knew exactly what I was paying for. They also refused a payment plan. We actually hadnt heard from them in a few months. Ironically, a CA called the day after we filed. I am ashamed to admit if felt good to give them my BK info.

Wells Fargo Financial - Auto Finance. I practically begged for their help prior to filing BK and they flat refused and were very rude about it. After BK they tried to reaffirm the loan (after telling me I wouldn't be able to). I had already bought another car, so I took great pleasure in telling them "oh hell no!"
Just to prove what idiots they were, they had me fill out paperwork telling them where the car was located. Then they sent the repo man to my OLD address. Morons!
I was glad to give them the shaft so to speak.

Your ss# as checking #? Yeah, that seems pretty dumb!Originally posted by epiphany View PostMy Credit Union. Banked with them for years and I started getting really nasty letters from them when I was only 30 days late....I kept paying them for awhile but still remained behind and the letters just kept coming about how I was skirting my obligations and using money that had been obtained "off the back of other credit union members".
I really was going to try and pay them off before filing until I saw how nasty they could get. Then I just said FU.
Plus, these boneheads use your social security number as your checking account number, they have for years. Isn't that, shouldn't that be, illegal?

I was lucky I guess - my credit union didn't call me at all, or if they did, they didn't identify themselves and I never spoke to them. I was afraid they might even object to my having taken the full amount of my available credit 9 months previous, as a balance transfer into my checking account. But since I had paid on it for half a year I guess there wasn't much they could do.
If there was one debt I guess I feel bad about it would be that one, because it IS a credit union. But on the other hand, they never gave me as good of interest rates as other cards, and they charge way too much for their checking account and so on, so I don't feel that bad. And in any case, Stuff Happens. I didn't plan to file bk on them, after all.

Interesting... I'm LOVING GM Card right now because they are the only card that left me with a line of open credit (albeit only $305!) after our bankruptcy. Actually, we had something like $5000 credit with them but had never carried a balance. Then, right when we began to see signs of things going wrong, they lowered our credit limit down to $305 - this was months before we actually missed ANY payments! I guess they have a good "predictions" dept.!Originally posted by justplaintired View PostFor us it has to be the GM card. I am not sure who is behind this card, but they raised our rate from 14 to 31.25 because we were 2 days late in a year long period, or so they said. They were our first card, 7 years ago and had always paid on time. Actually we never had any late fees to speak of. We called and begged them to reduce the rate, even told them there was no way we could make the payments. Our balance was almost $9000 on this card. We even told them we would have to talk to an attorney, they left us no choice. They didn't care, they basically said "tough"!
We look at it this way, they opened our eyes, we couldn't live this way anymore. They pushed us right in the direction we are headed. So as angry as we were, now we figure it this way, we stopped using cards that day, and haven't used once since. So Thanks GM thanks to your nasty rude customer service, we are finally doing what we should have done long ago, we are getting out! Besides that, we took out a second mortgage and paid off all these cards once, so basically they have already gotten what we borrowed over and over again!
But even my credit union who I owed NOTHING to, cancelled my credit card after we filed bankruptcy. So this one is the ONLY one that we have now, and while $305 isn't going to do us much good, at least it's a real card which reports to the Credit Bureaus, so we'll take it and use it to rebuild our credit!
But I have no illusions about them (or any other credit card) being "Good". They all have strict and sometimes ridiculous policies - as you pointed out - and so you just have to take them for what they are, and that is basically blood-sucking lenders out to get whatever they can out of your bank account by any means necessary (while providing a service you can choose to use or not use, at your own risk). I see lenders as snakes in the grass. They are not dangerous per se, but CAN BE if you arouse their wrath or mistreat them or surprise them or ...?

FW: Capital One is on my List
I owed them the most money and once I realized I was going under, they were the people I worried about the most. Funny thing is, after I filed against them, I never heard from them again once it was discharged and closed. They also never posted anything on my credit report after the discharge. All the other creditors listed me as discharged, under bankruptcy and all that, but Capital One never did any of that nor did they ever send me any more letters.

I hate to say it, but it felt good that my credit union got a big fat $0 (unsecured credit card debt.) Their lawyer has been an a**hole to me, basically telling me I'm stupid. This is the guy who refused to zero out my balance on my credit report...instead showing the balance as still due and owing.
I finally got smart and sent in my discharge papers to the credit bureaus... They verified and changed my account to show $0 and 'discharged.' HA HA HA... he can bite me now!

Havent filed yet but B of A raised my rates with them even though I had never been late with them. When I talked to them they were like well you have way too much debt, once you get it down give us a call and we'll work with you......So it would have to be B of A.

My husband had a car accident a few years ago on a rainy day, and the car who hit us was being driven by someone who wasn't covered, but they lied and said it was the wife driving (who was the passenger). We didn't have insurance at the time and they tried to sue US for $12,000 in damages. No real backup since we didn't have the insurance company to fight for us. So yes - we were more than happy to tack them on the BK!

Not really. Looking back over the last 2 years, I can pin point the decisions that we made that got the ball rolling in this direction. Purchasing a 175 year old home with a high debt load and no extra cash is a recipie for disaster. The rest was basically a futile attempt to stay afloat amongst the mounting issues in need of repair, and our lack of money management skills.
'But the house has character!' Meh... shove it up your rear end...
We purchased the house in June of 2006. We were on the ropes financially in April 2007 and ended up taking out 125% LTV refi in August 2007...
Hind sight is 20/20. I always had the notion that BK was for deadbeats.
Knowing what I know now, we should have filed BK in April...
