    Scores looking good!

I'm pleased to say that I've cleaned up our credit reports with all three agencies. After reading the different threads regarding consumer credit scores from Transunion and Experian, we've chosen not to purchase those particular scores although those reports look the best when compared to Equifax ... Transunion and Experian have both deleted many of our past-due accounts that were discharged in bankruptcy. Basically, the only bad mark on those reports is the bankruptcy notation along with two other cards.

Now that all reports reflect the bankruptcy as they should our Equifax credit scores are as follows:

    My Equifax score history:
    3/24/05 - 473
    4/6/05 - 482
    5/14/05 - 500
    6/27/05 - 506
    7/23/05 - 528
    8/12/05 - 606
    9/7/05 - 610

My husband's Equifax score history (didn't purchase ScoreWatch for him so the info is limited):
    5/14/05 - 528
    9/10/05 - 629

We've both recently been approved for an unsecured credit card with Orchard Bank, only has an annual fee of $59 - credit limit is low ($400) but that's ok since it's only going to be used to establish a positive credit line on our reports post-bankruptcy.

Granted I haven't tried to make a major purchase yet (no plans to either) but I truly feel filing bankruptcy was the right thing for us to do. It really has been our chance to start over. I realize that the bankruptcy notation will remain on our reports for 10 years but at this point, considering we were recently discharged in June, I can't help but think that with our diligence our scores will only get better. It hasn't been easy cleaning up the credit reports but the results are worth all the work we've done over the past couple of months.

Sorry this is long-winded but I am feeling good about our little success and wanted to share the good news!

Thanks for the post. It helps to see 'life after' tidbits. Like you, I have no intention of USING credit but I know that a good credit score is useful in life. So, once my 7 is all over & done w/ I'll start on the road to clean up my report, and work on my scores.
Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.
