Charge Off - Pay or not?

I am improving my credit from a financial collapse several years ago. Happy to report I will be debt free (Lord willing) in a year. Consumer debt anyway. My question concerns a credit card company that I have been paying through Consumer Credit Counseling, the real non-profit folks, for three years. The credit card company has been taking the payments every month, but somewhere along the way they filed for bankrupcy, was sold, and the new company charged off my account. But still collects. When CCC checked for a payoff amount, they are asking for over three times the amount I was paying through CCC. My question is, the charge off is on my credit report, and it is not going to go away even if I pay them off. So, is there any benefit to my credit report at all for paying them off? They were a predatator lender, but still, I do feel an obligation to settle the debt. But if there is no benefit at all financially, then I could use that money to pay off other debts. Any suggestions? Thanks much!

Send a dispute letter to the credit reports agencies if they cannot verify then they must delete the information, they have thirty days to respond to your letter. This company may be in violation of the fair debt and collection act if not the credit reporting acts. You have nothing to lose but time to dispute the information.
