We did Ch. 7 in Oregon in 2004.
Shortly before and shortly after, we had incurred hospital bills. The Ch 7 cleaned some of them up. But within a few months, the hospital referred the later ones to a collection agancy.
Fast forward to 2007. We went to buy a house. In talking to the mortgage broker, we mentioned the old hospital bill. She said cleaning it up would help.
But at the time there was no mention of that bill in any of the big 3 reporting agencies.
We called the collection agency and found out the amount due, about $9,000, negotiated it down to $7,000 and paid it.
Immediately I got about 8 or 10 negative reports from that collection agency dated Nov. 2007, with a balance of 0.
Is there a way to make them correct the date on the derogatory? (My Experian is 710 but these incorrect reports keep showing up whenever I try to re-fi my house).
