2 years...but only affects FICO for 1 year. Some lenders don't like to see a lot (what constitutes a lot varies from lender to lender).
Filed Ch. 7 Pro Se: 12/11/08
    341 Meeting: 1/7/09
Trustee's Report of No Distribution: 1/9/09
    Discharged: 3/10/09

What Ive been reading, and I wanted to pass this by the folks here at bkforum... but apparently if you have hard inquiries on your credit report and you did not request credit initiating the hard inquiry, you can dispute the 'involuntary' inquiries and have them successfully removed.

I have 14 hard inquiries on my Experian (about 6 of those are legitimate and I take full responsibility for their placement) but the other 8 or so were from creditors & collection agencies before/shortly after I filed bk checking my credit for whatever reason. I think Im going to research it a little further and try to dispute those 'involuntary' ones.
        Retained bk7 laywer 8-12-08, Filed 12-22, 341 Meeting Scheduled 1-29-09
        Discharged 4-17-09!!!
Reason for filing: Medical, NOT irresponsibility with credit.
