    new credit card...

So i just got off the phone with first premier because I applied for a credit card and I wanted to check the status of it. The lady that I talked to said that they were sending me a request for application fee of 39.00. Has anybody else had to do this?? She said that once the fee is recieved by them that they will order the card and finish the application process? I asked her if I was approved and what not and she said that once they recieve that application fee that I would be recieving a card within 7-10 days, and I asked her whether the card was secured or unsecured and she said that the card was unsecured. I dont know why but for some reason it sounds a little fishy...has anybody else here had to do that also????? Thanks

Some of the subprime cards work that way-having you pay an app fee (or something similar) upfront rather than billing it to you.

I'd suggest go with Orchard Bank instead. The First Premier, in addition to app fee, has an annual fee of $150/year plus a $6.50-7.50 monthly maintenance fee. True, it IS unsecured. In reality that just means you pay them alot of money and get none of it back. If you can't get approved for an unsecured Orchard account, you can probably be approved for a secured Orchard w/ $35 annual fee and an opening deposit minimum of $200. This is strictly my opinion-but its better to pay $235, and know you'll get the $200 back, than to pay the higher fees of First Premier.

well I applied for an Orchard secured card, they already took the 200.00 out of my account, but its been a couple of weeks already, and I dont know whats going on. I just want something that is for sure. I dont mind paying the fees for right now, because in my eyes im pretty much paying to fix my credit. im just tired of waiting to get started and its a little discouraging after waiting for so long for all of this..

keep in mind you will get offers here and there. the longer you wait the better the deal. dont just pay fees to get something. shop around and find a decent deal.

we found orchard to be decent. staci also recommend crown jewelers cuz its no credit check, but thats cuz she wants me to buy her little baby girl (my pumpkin by all rights) something cute!

It takes Orchard a little while... Call the customer service #, and they should be able to tell you if your card is on its way. Even from the time they issue your account #, it can take 2-3 weeks to get the card.

I know what you mean-no one in our situation can expect a fee-free card. There are some options out there that are less costly than others.

FYI-CJ may be having security issues w/ their site right now. Don't enter your debit card # in, use Paypal to pay for any purchase!

(This is based on a thread going on at creditboards.com, where a handful of people who paid their CJ account w/ debit or credit card thru CJ.com had their account # stolen.)

BKfiler-she loves little things, but is not into jewelry yet. A couple of her favorite toys are a little 'Pinky' and 'the Brain' set that was once a cake topper when a place I worked YEARS ago had a bday party for me. The little figures went on our computer for a long time, until she claimed them.

Oh-her favorite color is green, and her favorite food is broccoli because its green & it makes her grow.

It is still from people who claim to have had issues-and they are not getting a response from CJ. CJ is an 'email only' type communication-they won't deal with issues by phone.

I realize it might be more hype than substance, but there is no harm in being careful. Just in case...

well yeah, as long as you give the warning with it.

cj from all accounts is a good deal. maybe just make payment like you said with paypal or send it by check instead. or you could call them up and order by phone for the first time.

(i almost thought that was a G post)
