    When do I apply........

Tommorow is the day when I will actually be filing my chapter 7. I'm wondering if I would have better luck applying for an Aspire card before I file or after? I just joined the forum today, so a big hello to everyone ......

you are not supposed to apply for any kind of credit just prior to or during the BK process. Think about it you are asking the court to discharge your debts and yet you are applying for more credit....

Just one of those things my bankruptcy attorney fell to mention. But then again common sense should have told me that. My thought was simply to get a headstart on rebuilding...............Stupid me, thank heavens for this forum

        Brim,

Do yourself a favor. Don't even think of taking an aspire card. If you wait about 6 months after discharge without applying to credit cards or accepting the lame offers Capital one will mail you a pre-approved 0 fee card.

It worked for me and my wife. As a matter of fact, since we got the 0 fee cap one card we have gotten a 0 fee target card, 0 fee care credit card, 0 fee hooters card, and 0 fee racetrack card.

Don't be that eager to rebuild. Aspire card hurts your credit just by being there.

You are better off putting that money on a secure card, such as National City. They report to all 3 credit agencies as unsecured. So on a manual review the other creditors wouldn't find out.

Getting a card now would be a big mistake... NOt only could it get you into trouble with the bankruptcy court, but it would probably end up being closed and IIB anyhow.

I don't know your situation-so I don't know if this applies to you-but if you haven't already, work on becoming accustomed to living without credit cards. Only start rebuilding AFTER discharge, and when you're 110% certain that you can control your spending so that you don't use the credit cards to buy what you couldn't manage to buy with cash.

Very good advise everyone. I was in chapter 13 for 3 years and didn't get or want any credit. By law, here in Georgia, you are not to obtain any credit. That's grounds for dismissal. Live on cash and budget, budget, budget. You become accustomed to it after a while and it no longer is a big deal. Wait until the BK if over. Stayu focus!

                Uh Oh.......

Thank you all for the wonderful advice, although I'm a little concearned. My wife just received a new Credit Card last week that she put me down as an authorized user. So they sent me one as well, trouble is I just filed for my bankruptcy today. Should I have her call and cancel my card immediately!

Did your wife file bankruptcy with you, or did you file on your own? If she did not file-it it shouldn't be an issue. The account is not your responsibility-it is hers.

No offense folks, but cool your jets about getting CC's. Think of it this way.....If CC's got you into this trouble and you had to file BK (I see a lot of our members that had high CC debt), why in the world would you want to incurr CC debt after the fact. I can surely understand wanting a low limit CC for an unexpected emergency and to help rebuild credit, but take it slow. Speaking for myself, I never want another CC again. If I can't pay cash for it, then I don't need it (what I'm talking about is using CC's to buy (uneccessary) stuff at the stores and such), but if it's something you would like to have, then put away a few bucks here and a few bucks there until you've got the money. Believe me, the feeling of saving the money to buy it will be overwhelming.

Be smart about it and learn to manage your money wisely. The benefits will be that much bigger in the near future.
