We were able to rent - can we ask for him to report to Credit Agency?

    Yay!

We were able to rent a place to live. I was worried after the sale of our home we would not find a place. We were upfront with the guy and let him know our credit situation. We are putting down a larger security deposit (not as big as we thought) and move in this week.

I know he rents one other property and he also works in real estate. I'm not sure he reports rent to the credit agency's though? DH said it's no big deal as he can just write a letter when we wish to buy a home about our rent history. I'm not so sure.

Anyway - I am very PROUD of myself because we saw a Townhouse that we REALLY REALLY liked but it was almost $300 a month more. It was larger and I knew that means more utility costs. We also would need more furnature to fill the dang place! LOL

I really wanted this place. But I said to myself "NO!" you liked the condo fine ... get it and put the extra money in savings for a house of your own.
(Pat on the back here.) LOL.

So we are going to sign the lease on the cheaper, smaller place today. I'm sure my kids will be happy as it has a community pool that is free to use.

It hurt to turn down that other house. LOL!

    Congrats, WD!

We did the same thing. Were honest up front about our Credit. That tells you right away if the Landlord will work with you.

Great that you kept your eyes on the prize and went with the place that will help you save money as well!!

Great news DWDO! I believe you can ask the landlord/homeowner to report to the Credit Bureaus. If he does not, I think yuo can report it yourself. Another member posted something about reporting it yourself, but I think it got buried.

When you get ready to buy,......... If your Landlord doesn't report to the CRA's, many Mortgage Lenders will accept a statement of Payment History from your current Landlord.

A company has to be a member/suscriber for each of the three CRSs to recieve and report on credit accounts. If your owner is not a member he cannot get your credit report or report your payment history.
FNMA has a new program to help people with little credit history to buy homes. They will use rent payment and utility history to estiblish a history of prompt payments.
          I hope this helps.
