I just found this site today and I have found a lot of VERY helpful information. I couldn't find another post about my question, so here it goes. Has anybody else recieved a new unsecured credit card before their discharge? I had my 341 meeting a few weeks back and everything is supposed to be discharged on 9/25. Last week I recieved a pre-approved offer from Capitol One for a platinum master card. I figured what the hell, I will do the online application and see what happens. I was approved for $2000.00 unsecured. Is this normal? I have already recieved and activated the card. I haven't used it yet, this is for emergencies only. I was just curious if this was normal or somehow I got approved on a fluke.

Technically, it can be dangerous to take on new Credit before your BK is discharged. It could even result in getting your BK tossed.
But, having said that,.......... Others here have done the same thing in order to jump start rebuilding. I'd suggest, the smart move would be to tuck that card away for now. Don't use it until after your BK is discharged.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

That is correct. Many have done it, including myself, but it is definately against the rules.Originally posted by SinkingFastTechnically, it can be dangerous to take on new Credit before your BK is discharged. It could even result in getting your BK tossed.
