Having trouble getting a new bank account.

I would like to open a checking account at another bank, but am running into difficulty because I am on "checksystems." I had an occount that was overdrawn and terminated. (Very little of it was actually what I owed--it was mostly bank fees).

Every bank and credit union I call says that if I am on checksystems, I will not be able to open an account.

Is there any way around this?

If you have any branches where you are, try US Bank. They have something called "second chance". My wife got an account through/with them under that "second chance" program, even though she was on Chexsystems and had a really lousy credit history.

Thank you. I'll see if there is one in the area.

Thank you very much for the tip. There are several close by. I called them, and sure enough, they WILL work with me. Plus, one of their branches has great hours--open until 7pm.

          Good for you!

How are you going to be able to write a check to a retailer?

            That's great!

I know there is a bank here called "Woodforest" that does second chance accounts, they are inside Wal-Marts.

I'm in ChexSystmes too but I don't write checks so it dosen't matter to me. We were put into chexsystem through our last bank account (WAMU) for being negative when we file bankruptcy.

If you have two checking accounts, and you let one of them go and it gets closed by the bank for being overdrawn and lands you in the "checksystem" reject bin, can the other bank where you have an active account force you out (so to speak)?

                I don't think so.

I know my current bank would NOT have let me open a new account had they known about my problems. After I opened the accunt, I tried to open another one, and they refused, but said they could not discontinue my current account because of being on checksystem.

I was in chexsystems and I had a friend open up an account and then after a couple of weeks, put me on their account. This was through a credit union. Then after a few more months, he took his name off the account. That was how I got around it.
