    Hi everyone,
This is my first visit to the forum. You all have given me such good information on Chapter 13. My husband and I filed Chapter 13 in 2007 and we were confirmed November 2007. My question is we just filed our 2007 income taxes and we owe over $10,000. We don't have the money to pay these taxes. Will our trustee go back and adjust our bankruptcy to include these taxes? I have called our attorney and he hasn't returned my call. I hope you can help me. Thanks

We owed a lot in 2005 & 2006 because my hubby was an independent contractor. We should have made quarterly payments on his income, but didn't. I think this is how most people rack up big bills!

The reason I owe so much in taxes is because of my gambling. I hit several jackpots the first of 2007 and I didn't have anything held out for taxes(stupid mistake). I let gambling get the best of me and I got in debt with credit cards and the only way out was a Chapter 13. My attorney called me this afternoon and he told me that I could extend my plan out to 5 years to cover the taxes or raise my monthly payment. Raising my payment isn't an option because we barely have enough money to pay our living expenses and eat.

Glad your lawyer called you and hope the extension works for you.

You can offset your gambling winnings with gambling losses. If you utilize one of them casino cards which tracks your play, the casino should be able to provide you with a win/loss statement. If gambling got the best of you, your winnings are probably off set by your losses...you may find you don't owe the tax!!!
