how long from retain to file?

I'm going to be paying my retainer fee this week, we are trying to gather everything we are going to need to file including the money. I was just curious how long it took some of you from the time you retained to the time your filed, including taking that debt management class? Also once I file about how long until our 341 meeting, on average

We retained our attorney in August 2006. We thought we would be planning for a 13. We ended up with a 7 because I lost my FT job. We filed on 12/28/07, because we INSISTED on it. We were being hit with a couple of lawsuits the latter part of 2007.

We knew we had to wait to file, because we get a stipend from a trust the first of each year. We had to wait 6 months for that to roll off the screen.

What was NEVER told to us was that any major money transfer within the 6 months before filing would be questioned. So we did several major boo-boos that got us listed as an Asset case. And we are paying for it.

We know now that we would have been okay if we had waited to file--even with a couple of judgemnets against us. But our @##$%^*)*(&$^% attorney never bothered to educate us about this.
