Can you apply for student loans?

Ok... so we filed for Chapter 13 today. My husband and I would like to go back to school sometime during the three year repayment period. My lawyer said applying for financial aid shouldn't be a problem because it is a federal loan. My only concern is that they might look into our credit history and see that we are under chapter 13 and thus deny us. Is this a problem?

So long as the loans are federal subsidized loans, I don't even think they will check your credit.

However, if you both go back to school, how exactly do you plan on completing the chapter 13 payment plan? Why are you filing chapter 13 in the first place?

My husband will go first. Once he's done, I will do my degree.

Student loans are usually deferred until 6 months after you finish school. So hopefully, the education will lead to a better job/income, and increased ability to pay...

Going one at a time makes sense, I commend you for having goals! I plan to go back *someday* just don't have the time...
