I'm searching , but I can't find any reason a lawyer would really do the right thing. I mean, are Lawyers in bed w.the trustee's? Is it to the lawyers best interest to get as much in a 13 payment as possible ? Does the lawyer get anything back from getting as much money as possible in a 13 - outside of being on the trustees good side?

The chapter 13 payment amount is generally of little concern to the lawyer in the sense you are talking about. Most lawyers are ethical when it comes to helping you come up with the chapter 13. The lawyers job is to make that payment as low as possible, whereas the trustees job is to make the payment as high as possible. The actual payment will fall somewhere in between.
Where I a feel a lot of lawyers set traps for clients is the bait and switch. Quote a low fee to get you in the door, and then put you into a chapter 13 because they can then pull more fees out of the chapter 13. Thus, inherent in the fee structure of the attorney is a counter-incentive to putting a client in a chapter 7 (especially if its a borderline 7 that will require some wrangling by the attorney).
Most BK lawyers enjoy a professional adversarial relationship with the trustees.
