Finally: We have have a discharge! When do we start the clean up?

After waiting 7 months, we finally received our discharge and a nice refund from our trustee in the last week.

    Questions:

    1. How long after discharge should we start looking at our report to see if our creditors are cleaning up their mess?

    2. How long does that process usually take?

We know we're up over 650 on the average of the three, but we'd like to get a better interest rate on our new house. We're almost moved in! How long should we wait to apply for cheaper money??

    Thank you!

        ELF,

Pull a credit report now, check it, see where it needs to be improved and updated.
Send certified letters to creditors that have not updated their records and remind them they need to update their records and failing to do so is against the law....
You should start seeing a positve change in 2-3 months.

        Keep us posted,

Congratulations, hope it closes quickly. What was unique about your case? I see that you got a refund from the Trustee.

I've already refinanced at 6.3 (6.3 or 6.9, gotta' check). That's for two years then it can go up .5 point per every six months up to 11.00. I will probably refinance in about a year and eight months, or just sell. I'm thinking of cashing out and leaving South Florida for good. Just tired of the place.

            Robivi3,
WHAT - a Trustee actually gave a refund???? I'm shocked!!! LOL

I'm interested too in what the refund was for????

If it was for good behavior - now I know why I didn't get one!!!

            LOL, Minny

Congrats! You can go to this site https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp and get all three for free. Its not a scam, they dont want you to join some credit watching group like freecreditreport.com, its part of the law- you have a right to get one free credit report from all 3 of the bureaus each year.

We case was a bit weird. As a teacher, I receive a ten month salary. I had the trustee take the yearly payments and divide by ten instead of by twelve, so I didn't have payments during the summer when I'm not working.

Then becasue I get paid every two weeks, not once a month, I finished paying three months early. Over the course of three years, that's what happens. I finally pulled my atourney into it to get the trustee to cancel the wage garnishment. By that time, we were owed more than $2,000. It was not for good behavior. We overpaid the plan.

It was ridiculous. Then it took seven months for them to process the discharge. By then I had bought a new house. All I had was a letter saying the plan was complete, but no discharge. It drove me nuts, and it greatly affected my ability to get financing that intrest rate.

I'm really looking forward to the refinance.

Thank you all for the help!
