Well, we are on our way to a Ch. 13 and I am starting to get nervous! We've paid our retainer, planning on doing the counseling tonight, and will be going back for our final consultation to pay our filing fee next week. I've stopped paying our credit cards and even told a couple of creditors that we're filing. It all seems so real now, and I'm hoping this is the right thing to do. All I can think is in 4 years this will all be behind us. I am so glad we have this board to come to and talk to other people in our situation!! If anyone has any advice for me, I would appreciate it!!! One question...once this gets filed, the calls stop...do the bills stop coming too?

Beachgirl. In a way, congratulations. It's a very hard decision and you hear all the horror stories about BKs but once I filed, the calls and bills all stopped. All I had to do was adjust to having $700+ a month less but with no worries of having to pay all those credit cards. I guarantee you your blood pressure will come way down and you will sleep at night. It's a good feeling, and knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel gives you a 'Peppermint Pattie' feeling. Good luck on the adjustment.John, Virginia

Just a little advice about getting bills after the BK is filed. You will probably still get bills for the first 2-3 weeks (maybe up to a month). I think I got bills for about 2 weeks after filing....then they stopped (except for 1)
If you get a bill 30 days after filing, compare that creditor with your list of creditors. I received a bill (it was a small bill) and ignored it. Figured it was Shell gas card and figured they were just slow. Then I got the past due, call with your checking account number one, I discovered that I had left them off the list of creditors. That wouldn't have been good if it were a creditor I owed several thousand dollars to. Lucky it was only 13 bucks.
Just saying if your still getting bills 30 days after filing, something might be wrong, be sure and check it out. Believe me, as many times as I checked my documents, I still missed things. Some things, just down right wrong got past me.Chapter 13 Filed 4/03/06  341 Meeting Complete 5/11/06 :yes2:
