13 time stress - pending wage garnishment

I was served with a 17k lawsuit from a past credit card and it is forcing me into chap 13, my wife is not filing. The process has been slow and stressful, the attorney not very helpful (he's my second). Not sure I am doing the right thing, seems like a lot of money, 1150 per month 5 years, my debt does not amount to that much.

Should I buy a house now and wait? will I be able to go chap 7 then? don't know if we can qualify as now there are payments late, a pending wage garnishment from the lawsuit etc. I do not event know if I have enough time to buy a house before the garnishment would happen. Attorney is now putting pressure on me to file by june 15 or he will close the case. I just want to make sure I am going about this the right way. the plan will not leave much left at all. what happens when I get a raise, a bonus?

Why are you going Chapter 13??

going chap 13 because my wife and I make too much money to qualify for 7. that being the case, I am including back and current taxes, a car, a student loan, a credit card and the lawsuit, totals about 40, payments are to be 1125ish.
