I completed my 341 meeting at the beginning of September. I could really use some advice regarding some decisions from this point forward. I filed Chapter 7 in Florida. I don't think it was a no asset case, although the only asset was the household property which was valued at $400 over the $1,000 exemption.
Shortly before filing I temporarily moved out of the area to be closer to family who could help me get back on my feet again and to get away from the harassement of the primary debtor (a former business partner). My parents rented a small apartment for me about a month before I filed although I pay the rent in the months that I can afford to. I am self-employed and have been studying to gain some certifications that I hope will enable me to find some more work. I am now at the point where I may be able to find some more work but I am scared about what affect it will have on the bankruptcy if I do find work. The main concern is that I filed in Florida where the median income is about $38,000. Where my family live the cost of living is much, much greater and the median income is much higher. If I do start seeking work and secure a position it is possible that the job I get might pay above the median income for Florida where I filed. My overall position with regard to disposable income would be unchanged because my expenses would also be higher.
I could really use some advice here. I really want to get back to work and not have to keep leaning on my family but I don't want to risk anything with regard to the bankruptcy. This has been a very dysfunctional time for me and I desparately want to feel normal again.
If I get a job at this point in time am I under any obligation to report it to the trustee if my overall position with regard to disposable income has not changed? If I get a job here it would be temporary anyway because my ultimate intent is to return to Florida when all this is behind me. Also, I don't believe the apartment was listed on the bankruptcy schedules because it was leased in my parents name as a 6-month short term let with me named as a tenant. My house mortgage was listed but I am surrendering the house and the rent amount is almost the same as the mortgage was because of the difference in the cost of living here. Should the apartment have been listed on the schedules?
