    Finally filed!!/lawyer rant

Yay my freakin lawyer finally filed yesterday (found out myself by checking Pacer). 341 is Nov 16. When this is all done I am sooooo reporting them. I Gave them all paperwork beginning July and full payment mid Aug. Does not take 2 freakin months for a non asset case to make up a creditor matrix. Since I stopped paying CC when we had first consult end of June I had some wiggle room with them. Now most of our accts have gone into collections it took them so long. One excuse after another. And 2 weeks to file after we signed. I decided not to go pro se thinking it was too important and difficult. When I saw all the papers 2 weeks ago I was so mad at myself. I could have easily done it all, and much quicker!

Glad you finally got filed ekelly. It's odd your lawyer waited so long. What kind of excuses did he give you? I would be mad about that too. Good luck at your 341

So sorry this has happened to you. That lawyer should have had your BK filed a long time ago.Makes you wonder what your paying him for? I'll bet!
Your story is one of many that makes me glad I did not hire an attorney.I filed pro-se.
It sounds like I saved myself alot of headaches.

Ok, let me defend the lawyer a little a bit...they are people too, and generally very busy. Sometimes cases fall through the cracks. I think we can all relate to that scenario at some point in our lives.

Also, even though the money you are paying the lawyer seems like a lot to you, it really isn't very much to a lawyer, the margins on BK's are so small, the only real way to make money in BK is to have a high volume of cases (or have other areas of legal practice).

        Incidently, what were the excuses?

But your right, this particular lawyer seemed to wait too long, if they had all the information over 2 months ago that they needed, the case should have been ready within a month...but the two weeks from signing to filing is not that uncommon.

First during it was the summer it was who was on vacation. well if no is is able to prepare the case why take my money? Then it was the one who handles this is not in the office this week or till Friday. We were constantly calling and my dh even went in asked what the hold up was since they had our money and all requested paperwork. I even had to keep bringing then our paystubs each week so they had most current from when initially gave our paperwork. We were being told this week, this week. This was the only reasonanly priced lawyer in my area. I am still breastfeeding my 21 month old and could not be going to the downtown area with her where most of the BK lawyers are located. Due to our situation I had slim pickings. I know they have been around for at least 15 years. How they stayed in business with this kind of customer service is beyond me.
