I am going to file for bankruptcy (Chapter 7) soon. I owe money to the IRS from several years ago. My tax debt could be discharged under the bankruptcy IF I can get the IRS to remove the levies. What can I say to get them to do this? If I agree to a payment plan, won't they make me sign something that will prevent the debts from being discharged in a bankruptcy?

When i was Guardian for my father about 12 years ago he had a large IRS debt. An elderly agent realized that I was trying to straighten out the mess for my dad and quietly took me behind the counter and told me that without a lawyer I really shouldn't be getting the paper he was giving me. He handed me an "offer in compromise" document.
I dod not know why the secrecy in my Dad's case but with that you can settle for pennies on the dollar.
If you get a good agent who will talk to you maybe you can work something out."You once asked me for advice. You want some now? Never pass up a good thing." Lieutenant Jean Rasczak, Starship Troopers
