Address change, how to file from diff state

Hi:


I left the country in last quarter of 2002 and have returned now back to US for a visit, however, I would like to file bankruptcy. My problem is I live with my relatives in NY and before I left the country I was in CA.

Can I still file with my address showing NJ but the court in CA?

Please help....

I knew we were going to move to Chicago from Michigan before we filed BK, my lawyer in MI told me that we could file BK in IL after 6 months of residency there. We decided to file BK before leaving MI since we didn't want to wait and have any kind of judgments filed against us which could happen over a period of time. On top of that we of course had a financial hardship because I lost my job.

Thanks so much for the answer, however, since my current situation is that I am out of state and I cannot wait for 6 months since the law for Bankruptcy is changing soon as it has been passed in the senate, so I would like to file asap. I was wondering if I can file in CA without address and have mailing address in NY.
