Sad, scared and adicted to gambling

I came to Las Vegas four years ago with $68000 in the bank. I received an inheritance of $80,000 and my husband received an inheritance of $10,000. We bought a home for $227,000. Since arriving here I borrowed $18,000 from my sister; I have $143,000 in credit card debt (all cash advances); I have an outstanding casino marker for $30,000 and I have refinanced my home three times within the last 15 months and now have a first mortgage of $340,000 and a second mortgage of $30,000. I have also borrowed $30,000 from my 401K.

I have no place to turn to anymore. I know that I will have to file bankruptcy but even with that I do not have any idea what I am going to do about the $30,000 outstanding marker.

Tonight I thought how much easier it would be to just not wake up for another day but I am too much of a coward to comit suicide. I am just so sad, and I do not know where to turn.

Well, don't commit suicide, at least you are here and looking for some way out. You have options....

First, STOP BORROWING MONEY TODAY, tear up your credit cards, don't visit any payday loan places, and stay out of the Casinos or any other place with gambling...etc etc.

Second, thing you should probably do is seek the advice an attorney in you area. Given your debt load and unique issues in your case, you would be better off going to see a more conciencious BK attorney and not one of the "churn & burn" attorneys.

After you see the attorney and get an idea of your options and if BK is the solution for you STOP making payments on your credit cards, Only pay your mortgages, 401K loan, and any car loan.

Regarding the Casino Marker, there is not much you can do with that in BK.

Your biggest challenge...you will probably need to put some distance between your last cash advance and the time you file BK. (But remember, the BK law will probably change in October)

    Good luck

        Anybody heard from her?...

When I read these types of posts they really shake me up. There is no financial situation that is bad enough to even consider committing suicide over... It's only money. After you and your husband put this situation behind yourselves you will be able to look back at it and learn from the experience.

First, You need to seek help from a phsycological professional about your current mental status. Second, I would recommend a 12-step program for your gambling addiction. After those hurdles are under control you should be emotionally capable of dealing with these financial issues.

I've sent you a PM reguarding further advice about your situation.
