When do we give our cars back?

My wife and I are filing a Chapt 7 and are surrendering our vehicles. At what point do we do this? After the 60 days are up? We filed 6/11 and the 341 is 7/27 with last day for objections on 9/25.

Also - and maybe this is impossible, but we HAVE to have something for my wife to drive. I don't want to do a buy-here pay here, but don't really know of any other options. I have an old clunker I can drive that is under the exemption, but need something dependable for my wife and four kids to haul around in . Any responses appreciated!

Not sure about the surrendering, that's something you will have to get in contact with the creditor over. Sometimes they request a lift of stay and want the vehicles quickly since you showed intent to surrender, sometimes they wait until you are done, and finally sometimes they don't bother trying to come get it at all and you have to take it to them and make them take it. As far as buying a new vehicle, I could be wrong since it concerns transportation but you are not allowed to take on any new debt while in an active bankruptcy.

Yeah, I know about the no new debt, but can't be in a situation where we only have one old clunker. My wife and I both work and she travels 30 miles one way to get to her place of employment.

Ayway, if we can keep the cars until discharge or close, then we might be able to find some funding after the discharge. Thanks for the info!!

Yes, looking back, I couldn't believe how smooth and easy it was.

However, I still feel like I have to worry about my debt and how I'm going to pay for it. I'm not use to the void when I go to worry about it and then realize that the debt is all gone like I prayed for last year.
