    retainer fees

I made a hasty decision in late april paying a retaining fee to a lawyer during
initial consultation. I have not been able to come up with the lawyer fees and
will probably not be able to file until mid August. I would now like to file pro se. I have not referred the lawyers number to any of my creditors as of yet.
I have called the office one time about sale of a vehicle. (talked for 5 min)To date they have only provided me with a client packet and sent me a bill.I will request termination of agreement in writing soon. My question is this. Should I expect to be charged for any services or maybe even receive money back? What advice could you give me about filing pro se? I have considered purchasing the NOLO book or going with online preparers such as USA Bankruptcy or Bridgeport. My case should be fairly simple; credit card debt
and medical bills only. I qualify for chapter 7 after taking the means test.I also considered trading down on vehicles with my nephew to pay the lawyer fees. That is what I called the lawyer about.

The retainer was $100.00 Entire fee $980.00

Go ahead and request a refund, in writting, but you should plan on not getting it. Once the firm says no to refunding the retainer, your only option would be to file a fee dispute witht the state bar, but in the end, you should probably kiss that money good bye because it will take too much time and hassele to get it back.

I am not attempting to get a refund. I am only writing to terminate the agreement. (maybe I don't need to ?) I just hope not to get a bill and hold only slim hope of refund.
