We filed for a chapter 13 in 1994 and changed it to a chapter 7 in 1997. It was discharged in 1997.
Our credit is not very good, but we're trying to rectify that. We got a copy of our credit reports. Our bankruptcy no longer shows on our "public record" of our credit reports, but one creditor (Providian Visa) says,
Status: Discharged through Bankruptcy Chapter 7/Collection account.
Date Opened:
09/2003 Type:
Installment
Reported Since:
10/2003 Terms:
1 Months
Date of Status:
12/2003 Monthly Payment:
$0
Last Reported:
03/2004 Responsibility:
Individual
Account History:
Collection as of Oct 2003
Debt included in Chapter 7 Bankruptcy on Dec 19, 2003
My question is, if this is an account that we opened in September 2003 (as they stated above) how is it possible that this debt was "included in Chapter 7 Bankrupty on Dec 19, 2003?"
How can I get this off my credit report (at least the word "bankruptcy" as I no longer want that word on my credit report since it has been 10 years since my bankruptcy was discharged)?
Also, why would that say that? Is it possible I had an old account with them (pre-bankruptcy date) and they are putting this on my credit report to "punish" me?
Thank you for any advice you can give me!
Sincerely,
Chickadee
