If your debt is relatively simple (as it appears to be), you should be able to file pro se no problem. My debt was all credit cards, a vehicle I am surrendering, and even a couple judgments. It has been painless thus far. I was actually treated better at my 341 meeting than the rest of the debtors who had counsel!

Dang, all I get is muslin allotment yearly--maybe 1 yard or so......we couldn't even sustain bingo on our rez, let alone any type of real profit inducing business.Originally posted by freshstart06 View PostFO7, my goodness, we have too much in common but it is reversed with us. My husband is part native american, his tribe is located in Yuma, AZ. We receive profit sharing from his tribe, that varies from year to year. Are you receiving your profit sharing from your tribe??? I heard the Cherokee tribe has the highest payout because they are the richest tribe. If you are not receiving it, look into it, I think you will get all your back pay as well all you have to do is register with the tribe.

is that right? i know it was sometime in '02 when i stopped paying on the credit cards (at the time i planned to file bk soon after... but "life" got in the way and i never did it!). the debts have been sold and resold to collection agencies many, many times and i just get letters in the mail every so often, and sometimes they'll track down a phone # for me and i get a lot of "unknown caller" on the caller ID and messages that are very vague and reference "an important business matter." but i never call back, of course! and eventually they either stop calling or i get a new number or whatever. anyway, so i don't know all the rules about old debt, i thought if they sold it to a collection agency, the "clock" essentially started over. is that not right? it's all so confusing.Originally posted by JRScott View PostVery good comments and good luck to you all.
To the OP you say most of that credit card debt is 5 years old. When was the last time you paid on it. You might want to check the SOL for the state it was incurred in (if different than the state you live in now). If its past that date then they really can't legally collect it.
Other than that the others gave great advice
