Discharged, Closed and approved for CC

My account discharged on monday, it closed yesterday and I was approved for an unsecured credit card from Orchard. I don't know the credit limit but the annual fee is $39.00. I figure I'll pay that once since my credit will have improved after one year and I'll get them to waive future fees or get a new card.

BK has worked well for me and I hope everyone here has similar experiences....

Did you start cleaning up your credit reports right away after you filed bk? Just curious what you did?

        Me? No.

But right before my discharge I looked on Experian I think and saw some items that were not listed as "included in BK" and I filled out the form (online) to dispute. They came back corrected. I really have not done anything else at yet. I don't even know my FICO scores. I need to start working on all that. The thing of it is, it is still SO confusing to me as to where to go to get those scores, the least expensive way. I've been reading all the posts on here about that subject and seems like everyone has a different idea.

Sometimes life make you deal with ugly and hateful people ,just think of them as sand paper. They may scratch you and rub you the wrong way but eventually you end up smooth and polished and the sand paper becomes old and worn out.

We started working on ours after discharge because alot of creditors wont change the status until it is officially discharged.

I don't have anything to work on as far as credit clean up. The only things on my credit are included in BK. Nothing I can change.

I intend on only using a new card to build credit so I can qualify for a mortgage asap. Money is tight in the lending business so I expect at least 2 years to get my score back up to 700.

You should still check your credit reports and make sure that they are properly reporting that it was IIB.

Logan - not so fast. If there is anything that is reporting incorrectly, bk dates, payment history, date the account opened, etc., dispute it. Worst case is they come back verified. Start out with 4-5 disputes and see how they go.

But you need to do all 3. In addition to Experian, there is TransUnion.com and Equifax.com to check. You need to ensure all 3 are clean.

                          Boscoe,

When I went into BK I had never been late and had nothing negative to report on my credit so the only things reporting are my 7 accounts that were included along with the public record. If I'm missing something I would love to know.
