I Filed Chapter 7 Today!

Well, my attorney filed my paperwork today. It feels so weird to have actually went through with this. It might get converted to a Chapt 13 because of my new job offer - I got the formal job offer letter today and they want me to start 2 weeks from Monday.

So I filed bankruptcy and got a new job in the same day. My attorney said it will probably go through as a Chap 7 but even if I have to file a Chap 13 I'll be better off then I am now (swimming in credit card debt).

How are job prospects? Might it be better to pass on this new job untill your case is closed?

I wish but there are hardly any good jobs in my town. I've been commuting 1 1/2 hours each way to work for over 2 years now. This job is only 13 minutes from my house. No way can I pass it up. I'm wasting too much of my life on the road. I know the timing is horrible but somehow this is how it's meant to be...

Hopefully someone can confirm but a new job/income shouldn't affect a Ch 7 filing at all, right? It's the prior 6 months they are concerned with.
(I'm kinda in the same boat, making about $10k more than I was six months ago)

From what my attorney says it will probably be ok but it really depends on what the trustee asks me during the 341. If he asks me about my job and finds out I'm making 20K more per year he might try to convert to a Chap 13. I just can't lose anymore sleep over it though. If it's a 13, then it is. I'm still not going to have very much money to pay into the plan.

Good luck! It'd be GREAT if you could file Ch. 7 AND get a new start with a new job, too! Hope it works out! Either way, you come out ahead.
