I had my 341 meeting yesterday morning and just as you all promised it was no big deal. she asked the normal questions "did you read the paperwork? did you include all your creditors? have you ever filed before?" etc. and then she asked for my 2006 tax return.
yikes.
my attorney didn't file my tax return with the court and I didn't think to take it with me! he took the blame in front of the Trustee and she gave me an hour to run to Kinko's, print it from Turbo Tax and run back. She paged through it quickly, said "no further questions" and that was it!
I must say, it was interesting to watch the people ahead of me. One girl filed Pro Se and her paperwork was a mess. The Trustee wasn't mean but she was pretty firm in pointing out all her mistakes. Her case was continued. I felt bad for her.
Two people (in two separate cases) didn't speak English and had to have translators. I'm not even going to say what I think about that.
And one guy got drilled by the Trustee and a creditor who showed up. He claimed a $24,000 interest deduction on his tax return for his girlfriend's place that he does not own. Drives a brand new BMW, gets a car allowance and annual bonuses. It just didn't add up. My attorney and I agreed that he'll probably be the 1 in 250 to get audited. I did not feel sorry for him.
Anyway, thanks again to everyone for your guidance and support. I am so glad to have found this board.
Can't wait until Dec 17!
