Filing, and automatic stay for student loans

Finally this month I'm gonna pay the filing fee. when exactly does the stay go into effect for the student loan? I really need to not pay them this month if I can. how long does the stay last? when do I need to start paying them again? thanks!

We filed BK7 on 9/5 and got a letter that we did not need to make our Sept payment and that our loans are in forebearance due to BK. Next payment due 1/08. We are now discharged and closed.
