    341 - sitting side-by-side with U.S. Trustee :-)

I just walked back into the office from my 12:30 341 meeting. Wow, I thought I was going to pass out before hand but it was surprisingly painless, even with the U.S. Trustee sitting next to me and the regular Trustee sitting across the desk. My attorney rocked and I now have no reservations recommending his office to anyone.

One attorney was the one who handled my case up until today but the firm's main attorney (the guy with his name on the door) was there for the 341 and it was the first time I'd met him. It was funny as he reminded me of the drummer in my old band :-)

Anyway, aside from amending my schedules and creditor matrix (my credit report doubled up four of my credit card accounts and pushed me over the $100K mark, hence the visit from the U.S. Trustee), things went well. I'd totalled my car AFTER the filing and just got a $3200 check from the insurance company for it and I get to keep that, too. The Trustee said it wasn't worth going after a few hundred dollars over my exemptions. So sweet.

The U.S. Trustee then just asked about why my debt was so high and I told him how they were way more than what I really owed and he was fine with that. He just asked that I amend the creditor list and sign off that they were really duplicates and whatnot. Simple stuff.

I was stressing big time about my expense schedules and how they might balk at some of the amounts. Now I know that there really isn't much to sweat about since they never asked about it - just the basic questions everyone gets asked and nothing out of left field. The trustees are actually kinda cool like some of the older guys in my office - just doing their job.

I honestly can't believe that part is over. I'm in the 60 day club and can move on with my life!!! I'm 35 and feel the first part of my life has been marked by this failure. Now it's time to make a fresh start and make the rest of my life a success.

I owe so much to this board, especially from saving me from the original firm I went with which was pushing me towards a Chapter 13. I'm glad I found this board in time and only lost $950 and not the next five years of my life.

    THANK YOU, BK FORUM!!!

Hi Chicago, I wonder if the US Trustee comes to cases on a frequent basis, because I filed in Chicago too and one was there.
    Anyway- congratulations! One hurdle down.

He might as he was sitting in on one after mine, too, but then he took off. Cool guy, though and just wanted to know why my debt was so high. Explained it to him and that was all he needed.

I actually didn't realize the meeting was over. Both Trustees got up and started walking out and I was thinking, "That's it? Isn't there something else? I'm free to go???" Such a relief.
