One question about cars

Hello everyone. I just registered on this forum, however I have been reading for about a month. I am planning on filing chapter 7 pro se this week and I had a one question before I did.

I have two cars that I owe money on. I don't really care to keep either one. How long after I file do I have before I have to surrender the cars? I am asking because I obviously need to pick up a cheap car before I do surrender. Also, does anyone know if I buy a car before discharge will that mess everything up?

Just depends on how fast the creditors file for relief from stay and repo the cars.
If you buy a car prior to filing , just be sure the equity is below what your state exempts.
Are you planning on paying cash for a beater or, financing a newer model. Financing without a discharge will be tough. Many lenders won't touch you until the bk is discharged.

Thanks for your answer. All I need is probably a couple of weeks. I was planning on paying cash for a beater. No more financing for me. If I can't pay cash, then I can't afford it.
