It has been a long hard 6 years since my divorce. I stupidly thought that we would split everything when this started and in the end the judge gave me the 3 credit cards. I lived on the credit cards during the year and a half seperation before the divorce as i was a stay at home mom of three. As i never knew when or if he would pay the bills i lived on a credit card (yes i know looking back how dumb that was :o ).
Fastforward to today, I have spent the past 4 years getting my LPN and going to school. I have not heard from the credit card companies for a long time. I put my student loans (which pay my bills) on Monday, by thursday my account was garnished of all of it. I was given a number and found out that i was apparently taken to court and that there is a bench warrant out for my no-how. (Which i had no idea that i was suppose to be in court)
I see that i need to clear this up, I contacted the local low income legal services for help. They are voting on Thursday if they will take the case, i have borrowed the 200 i need to file with.
I am in Michigan, after contacting the company they told me they will not release the warrant on me until i pay at least half of the bill (total with interest is now 27k).
I am at a loss here, will bankruptcy help all this?
