We're moving in with family since I was laid off. We will need to pay for our own food, utilities and such. Is this considered a preferential payment since we're living with family? We may need to pay them a certain amount each month for rent, but that's still unclear. If we paid rent there, how is that considered?

Preferential payments, first off, have to be more than $600, and 2nd only apply to "creditors". Buying things with cash (your normal living expenses) cannot give rise to a preferential payment issue.
The rent thing is a little more tricky, if you are going to pay rent, do up a basic rental agreement.

Also, at the grocery store in their office supply section they have little receipt books that makes carbonless copies.Originally posted by HHM View PostThe rent thing is a little more tricky, if you are going to pay rent, do up a basic rental agreement.
If your parents are up to, and I hope they are, everytime you pay rent, have them write you a receipt. Save those.Chapter 13 Filed "Old Law"
