Filing without an attorney

Has anyone filed without an attorney? How did it go? Any advice/tips? I am pretty nervous that I will screw something up but I just don't have the cash for an attorney. I have $25,000 in CC debt and no assets. I am thinking my case is pretty uncomplicated. Any info would be appreciated!

Go to the General Bankruptcy Talk forum and you will see a sticky thread at the very top. That is a BK manual written by an attorney. It is for Kentucky, and you will have to be sure those laws apply to your state, but it is very informative. It is 90 pages, but there is very good information in it. Good luck!

Another BK forum that I post on has a number of people who winged it on their own and did just fine. Just make sure you read what Florida Girl suggested so that you can have all of the appropriate paperwork done by your 341 - meeting of creditors. You dont want them to have to postpone it for lack of paperwork or id and ask us too. We have all been there - done that for the most part so we will help you in any way we can. There is no I will bring the ids or whatever later - it is then or it is rescheduled. You sound like your case is pretty much cut and dry so it shouldnt be too difficult but again a number of people have flown solo and you can too. Good luck!

Thanks for the info and support! I really appreciate it. Sometimes I wonder if I am doing the right thing. I wish someone would just take over my life for a while since I seem to be doing a pretty good job of screwing it up! This isnt where I saw myself at age 24 but I guess that is just the way life goes sometimes. Anyways, thanks!

I used a para legal service for $150 to fill out the paperwork for me. They were helpful and told me what to expect. This forum has been the best support for me. I was $80,000 - no assests. I had my 341 meeting - it took 2 min. I am waiting my discharge. Good luck!
