I just found this site today and this forum is terrific - I'm totally cross-eyed from reading as many posts as I can on as many topics as possible. It's comforting to know that other people are going through what we are, and it's great to have a venue to ask questions, commisserate and learn. I just can't imagine asking one of the parents at my kids school, "what did you say to your daughter when she wanted to know why the sherrif was at the door? Did you find it hard to explain that he wasn't there to arrest mommy, just serve her with foreclosure papers..."
We had applied for a modification on our Countrywide mortgage in November and after numerous hoops and phone calls, the request finally went to "the investors for approval" about a month ago. On Wednesday, they called and said that Fannie Mae had just begun a new program (paperwork is titled 'HomeSaver Advance') where they will lend you the past due amount, including foreclosure fees, at 5% interest for 15 years. The payments and interest don't begin for 6 months. The maximum loan amount is $15k. We received the paperwork today, along with a FedX return envelope and they need to receive it back by Friday. Once received, we will be considered "current" in 10 days. Has anyone had any dealing with this program or heard of it?
We met with an attorney last week and have decided that once we get this worked out with Countrywide, we are going to file chapter 7 in mid-April.
Thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge and what you're going through.... it has really made a difference in my outlook today!
