Pre-filing credit counseling ??

I thought the pre-filing credit counseling had to be done within 60 day before you file. The following website say at least 6 months before you file.

Can anyone clarify?

The first course certificate is filed with your BK filing and the 2nd course must be done within 45 days of filing.

Hummingbird.org is the best place to get both. If your income qualifies then they're free, but if not the courses are very inexpensive.

6 months is right. You can take the pre filing course within 180 days of filing and it'll still be good.

I don't think it's a good idea to take it that far ahead as it shows you are in financial dire straights and possibly considering BK.

Wherever you take the course, make sure that it will be accepted in the district that you are filing. Check with your lawyer or the court because not every program is accepted everywhere.

Hummingbird will tell you right on their site which states they are accepted by.

Edited to add it looks like they are accepted in every state per their web site.

I checked the list the atty gave and it is on there. I'm not ready to file and did not want to do it yet, but they have a great spending plan tool.

We've used hummingbird for both and they are fine.

I did mine this past weekend. It wasn't hard but I did have to input all my financial stats & debts which I wasn't expecting. Luckily I had it all. I don't know if it's like that for every cc org out there but it was with the one I chose.

Be prepared for the 2nd couseling to be done after your 341 hearing. Don't put it off b/c it takes a while - We had to watch a 2 hour video! Then take a test and enter some codes to show we had watched it.
