Stephen Snyder: Life After Bankruptcy...anybody heard of this?

Now that I am passed the discharge and closing of my chapter 7 case, I am just now getting to the point of having a little money and rebuilding in a real sense. I found out about this guy name Stephen Snyder and allegedly he wrote a book called Life After Bankruptcy, but I want to know if anybody has read it, gone to any seminars or knows of it?

I have the book Credit After Bankruptcy and I just went to one of his seminars a couple of weeks ago. I think both are good. I also subscribe to his free e-newsletter. If you get a chance to attend one of his seminars, you should. It's free and pretty informative. Plus, he brings in a local Ford dealership rep that he has researched as the most BK friendly/skilled and you can talk to them on the spot. Same for a mortgage rep that he has used and recommended for about 7 years that are skilled in mortgages for BK people. Oh, and he also has a law firm that he VERY MUCH recommends for credit repair. I'm signing up for that as soon as we're discharged because the results look pretty awesom. The law firm is Facemyer and something (they just acquired Bradley Ross).

At the seminar he also gives the names of his recommended secured credit card companies (lower fees, reports to all credit bureaus, etc).

I think the best thing about the book and seminar (especially the seminar) is that it gives a road map to your recovery with names and numbers of companies to use. You know, definite and concrete things to do. Because it can feel a little daunting facing the task, not knowing which way to turn.

I to have attended his programs. His solution is to have more debt by buying a new Ford. No doubt Ford pays for being there.
Most of us need a written budget and a plan for living within it. Dave Ramsey no debt solution is too radical, so for me something in the middle is the best course.

I actually like Dave Ramsey's plans. I took his course shortly after filing last year. Now I do not make enough to do everything yet, but it has helped me immensely. There are some really good common sense stuff that's in his plan as well as others. Most of his plan is devoted to getting you out of debt and changing your lifesyle.

His book is called Financial Peace, it is a good book, even if you can't do it all now. I know building up an emergency fund has been the best thing I ever did.

I wanted to add as far as credit repair, you can do that yourself. I just started fixing my husbands credit and his score jumped from low 400's to mid 600's. That is me just starting (what I like to call first round). His credit score are now higher then they were before we filed.. Good Luck

I think I was getting ads for that guy's stuff in the mail after I was discharged.

My own personal opinion? Don't waste money....go to the library and also use info on THIS board and other credit boards. That's all you really need. There are no "secrets" to life after bankruptcy. You can find all the information yourself without paying for it.

I would tend to agree. While there is nothing saying that what Ramsey and Snyder are selling isn't informative, it's not like it isn't all right here or on the internet (or just plain common sense).

It all comes down to evaluating individual situations and making changes so that we don't end up in the same boat again. Sure, sometimes part of it is beyond our control, but we as a society need to start looking at the big picture. It is one of the reasons this entire country (gov't included) is so far in debt.

                Give him a FWIW

We attended his course recently and found it very informative. He even admits that the information he gives is out there on line and in books. In our case we were glad just to get our feet wet in starting our recovery. It was also helpful to both of us to see plenty of other people who looked as average as we do who are in the same situation. We both found that the act of going and talking about being bankrupt in a room of other bankrupt people really alleviated some of our baggage about our being bankrupt. I also like the newsletter for it's common sense positive take on recovery.

I wouldn't pay a dime for a book on life after BK. Creditboards.com has credit, mortgage, automotive, money mgt, and other forums on how to rebuild and manage your credit after BK. They have an amazing database and their resources and experts on there have more knowledge than any book.

What can I say, I love that place.

Now thats the problem. I get the newsletter, I bought the book, I subscribe to the different compainies and take advantage of the places he recommends and all are great, but my one problem is that there is never a seminar anyplace near me and as a person who has filed bankruptcy, I pretty much do not have to tell you that travel money is out of the question at this point. If only I could find out about these companies he recommends some other way. Everybody raves about the seminars and the advice he has already recommended has been valuable, but the car dealer is what I need. Even on the news letters he never mentions a car dealer to go to specifically.

Believe me, seems like each and every one of us has some type of recommendation. But even though you may not want to pay for the book, some of us found it valuable to have and its helped us a lot. The whole bankruptcy thing is like school. Some people will catch on quick and get good grades with little or no effort and some of us have to search and research and get the good grade.

But Cassiopedia don,t you think that getting a recommendation from someone who has been there is better than having several outside places run your credit only to tell you NO? Seems it would be worth it just to get a Ford recommendation.
