After you file, do they still look at your bank accounts?

Our attorney said we needed to have our bank balances as low as possible on the day we filed. They would take a snapshot of those balances. But I forgot to ask, what about the 3 month after I file. Will they continue to look at my accounts? He said if I had $2k in my account on the day I filed they would take it. But what if I have 2k after? My paychecks get direct deposited. So now I'm worried they will take what little I accumulate.

    Does anyone know?

Your bk filing is a snapshot of your finances on the day you file. That's why we recommend having a bank balance below what your state exempts on filing day. After that, you'll be fine. We all work and deposit paychecks post filing.

Don't have a lot of money in the bank on the day of filing. After filing it is okay to have some money in there as they realize you have to go about your normal business.

Here is the thing and they need to be aware of this. It is simple math that once you file you NO LONGER need to pay your debt (the debt you wish to included in the BK). So, saying that you will begin to see more $$$ in you bank acct as before - and I think they are aware of that.
Pay you bills ontime (utilities, car ins, etc) and living expenses like groceries - heck even a movie or dinner but not excessive.

The few weeks before my 341 I was told to have everything in hand (bank stmts, 401k, debt statements, lease to my vehicle, EVERYTHING). But when I got to the 341 I was never asked for any of my stuff. Oddly enough, the US Trustee was more interested in my wife's stuff (because I filed alone).

So yes, you might begin to see a few xtra bucks in the account but I do agree you don't want to give the trustee anything to raise an eyebrow over....

          Good luck

i heard from someone who went through bk, that i can start adding money in my checking, and so, i now have savings.
i really hope it's ok that now im building balances... my relatives have given me cash as gift, due to crisis, so i deposited. i hope that it is ok, too.
