    Washington Mutual/Navy Federal

I am thinking about filing Chapter 7 in September, but wanted to know if anyone knew if Washington Mutual or Navy Federal objects the claims often or not...Do they have a reputation of being hard on filers...

I haven't heard of NFCU objecting, but I do know they have a long memory. If you BK them, you won't be able to use their services again.

I filed on my Providian card just as Washington Mutual merged/bought out Providian in 2004. No hassles at all - in fact 6 months after discharge Washington Mutual offered me, and I accepted a Visa card with a starting limit of $1500, which by now rose to $3000.
And just about 6 months ago they gave me one of their MCs with a starting limit of $1000.

Most credit unions are like that.

I wasn't aware of that. I know I used to be a member of NFCU my first 2 yrs in the military and left them because their customer service sucked.

I agree.... NFCU is the worst....

My spouse and I are starting the process for either chapter 7 or 13 based upon our June 4th meeting with our lawyer and a huge chunk of our debt is with NFCU. We have banked with them for quite a while and for the last year when we started having $$$$ problems due to an illness in our family and they have treated us like *&^))$#!!!!!! To be honest with you we have already kicked them to the curb and changed to a new bank.

I had been with NFCU since before I knew what a bank account was due to my Dad being in the service (NAVY) who got bank accounts as well for all his 10 kids with their own accounts (plus me BABY#11 !). I had just started using them for what its worth and got a couple of consolidation loans and couple of credit cards from them (2 consolidation loans/2-3 credit cards w/$10,000 limits!). It was so easy to get credit with them! LUCKY I never got an objection from them. I filed BK owing close to $30,000. And the one that surprised me the most was obtaining a $10,000 mastercard, which I blew up at a casino 3 months before I filed and I had only paid less than the minimum due! CALL IT LUCK!

You were lucky then, because I know of a few people that filed on them and weren't able to use them ever again. The BK dept. even told them this. They had to change banks. And they are career military people.

I've never-ever had a problem with NFCU. I've been with them for almost 20 years. I hate that I'm going to have to stick them with about 9k.

My experience with NFCU is that they are not very understanding when it comes to being unable to pay. I've been fighting for a loan mod for nine months and have been jerked around continuously--despite a disability that keeps me from working.

Regarding bankruptcies, they also try to send people through their Personal Budget Worksheet ($1 per page to fax the worksheet and three months of bank statements and pay stubs) in order to get your credit card debt restructured. They don't really leave you with an option other than 7.
