    Stupidcredit,

Forgot to answer your question. The thinking on this board is that you should file shortly after you have secured a decent job and stabilized things.

Now, remember, the income test for qualifying for chapter 7 is a 6-month look-back. So let's say you get a great job. It is unlikely that one or two months of a better income will disqualify you from chapter 7 because based on the previous 6 months, your income is still below the median for your state.

Also, even after you get a good job, it takes a while before you get paid. So your paychecks lag behind. And for bk, the court takes a snapshot of your last six months of income. So you could have a good job for a while and still have not been paid many times. So you're still covered.

First thing for you to do: visit 4 or 5 bankruptcy attorneys in your area. These initial consultations are free and you can get good guidance from meeting these lawyers. You run your situation by them and they'll give you guidance. Even if you don't have a good job yet, meeting with attorneys can be very informative and can reduce your anxiety as this entire process becomes more concrete.

i was in a bit of a panic with all the creditors calling, but I'm a lot more at peace thanks to you guys. I will take your advice to heart.
I will wait to file until I'm a little more stable, and I'll meet with lawyers for free consultation.
I'm still wondering if you guys think I could self-file?
Can you recommend some resources for that?
Even though I'm waiting to file, I would like to be prepared when I do.
