I am filing Thurs. and just received my tax return info from my accountant. We are suppose to receive a return of 1500 state, 3000 federal and 1800 stimulus. My attorney wanted us to file our taxes before we file so that she can protect our return. Is this possible? We are in RI

If you know the amount of the returns and want to protect them, listing them as exempt on your petition is the right thing to do. If you are an above median filer and cutting it close on the means test, know that the "taxes paid" expense on the means test may be adjusted downward by your local trustee or the U.S. Trustee (yes, even after you file and after your 341 hearing) to reflect your actual tax liability.
