I know they can garnish wages, but what about 1099 income?

But how can they locate the source of my income? Where is the database that supplies this information?
If you have a steady income from one place and bill them, they can send a 1099. If you take a call and get paid from some little source. They will not send a 1099. Here is how it works. You get a W2, IRS gets a copy, computer compares. Same with 1099. No 1099, no compare.

I already did the low energy thing for the light bulbs. I replaced 50+ bulbs in our entire house (inside and out) to 15 and 20 watt bulbs. Our electric bill ranges from $80 to $140/mo. all year round. We have just over 1500 sq. ft. under air. Temperature ranges from 18F to 105F degrees where I live.
    Good. The little adds up.

I am pleased you look to diesel. It will burn anything but gasoline and water. Shortning can be mixed. I do not make biodiesel, I mix to extend. No damage yet and I've done this a long time.

I tried checking local restaurants for used cooking oil and most people here use shortening. Diesel cars are very hard to find and very expensive due to all of the people making grease cars out of them.

Anyway, please tell me in detail how a creditor is able to track the source of one's 1099 income.
A creditor can't. No way. What do waitresses do? My daughter was a waitress. Cash, they keep, tip on CC card, they declair. Don't misunderstand I'm not stating a way to cheat IRS [yeah sure], but be wise. 'Hub
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

Thanks for taking the time for your feedback.

The IRS knows all the money we make, so there's no cheating.

I will have 6 months to think this out for the Ch. 7. As long as me and my wife stay unemployed, we have more of a shot. She refuses to give back our BMW. Anytime I try to talk to her about the situation, she constantly tries to change the subject and ignore the money problems. Well, come next month, we're not going to be able to make the rock bottom minimums... so the creditors are going to start flooding me with calls. The problems will only compound from there.

The hospital wants my tax returns. That's why I don't want to give them because they will show my 1099 source and if there's any possibility of garnishment, that's a sure-fire way of getting it done by offering them the information which will go against myself.

And if they garnish, then we'll REALLY be behind. Our homeowner's insurance is going to be due for $250 any day. We only have a few hundred in the bank to last until the 15th of next month. I have no idea how we're going to buy food or put gas in the cars unless we charge it on credit. Won't we get into trouble for continually using the credit?

My wife needs clothes and will need to charge it. We have tons of necessities that we need. Since we're out of cash, all we can do is keep digging the hole deeper.

I have to chime in and agree with the others about the $14k car.... why??? Can't you get a cheap car for a couple thousand dollars to get you back and forth until you are back on your feet? It seems like you have so much going on in your life the last thing you should be considering is a flashy car I would just leave the image behind and get something practical to get you around.

I'm done with American cars. I don't ever want to buy another one again. I only want to buy German-made cars from this point on. I've owned a lot of American cars over the past 20 years and they are all low in quality compared to the German cars. The safety, quality and handling of an American car can't hold a candle to a BMW, Audi or Mercedes.

Anyway... instead of going out and spending $13-15k on a new Hyundai, Saturn, Honda, etc... I could simply buy a "temporary" crappy car and drive it for a year while saving for the Benz.
Ok. In your post it sounded like you wanted to do that now. I can completly understand doing it after you saved up the cash.

As for handling, I have a Huyndai XG300 and hubby was totally suprised at how well it handles. Says it handles just as well as his BMW did if not better. I know it has saved my tushy a few times around a few very sharp corners.

Good luck with whatever you buy.

Yeah, if I did that now, the judge would be very mad. Plus since we spend 110% of what we net, we have no way to save anyway.

I've owned many Hyundai's. I could never afford a German car. Now that I will have to learn patience, I prefer to buy a $14,000 2006 Mercedes Benz over a 2008 or 2009 Hyundai Sonata... and pay CASH. Granted, it may take 2 to 3 years after the Chapter 7... but it will be nice.

It's convincing my wife to give up our BMW. This thing is the best handling vehicle I've ever owned. The stability control is amazing. You can take corners at crazy speeds and it stays flat. And this is an SUV!!!
