    pacer website

Is Pacer access available to the public or only court officials? When I try to access R.I. BK court, it says "authorized access only" "Access for official court use".

You have to sign up to use it and provide a credit or debit card. It costs 8 cents per page view.

PACER provides information about accessing and filing federal court records electronically. Find resources for using PACER.

HA! That's too funny. They charge you when you're filing BK, as if you HAD money to pay?? And how DO you pay? Via CC that you're filing on?? :s

About how many pages do you view to check your status? I too have seen this, but since we haven't filed my mom's BK yet, I haven't really gotten to that level of interest. But since it's come up, I may as well figure it out.

Pacer is a godsend even at $.08 a page. I got a heads up that our U.S. trustee was going to file a motion to object to our case. My file showed a red flag with a code which I was able to decode from information I researched on the internet. You can systematically track your case. My attorney would not win an award for his bedside manner so I had to find some other source of information. In fact he said I worried too much. Easy for him to say it wasnt his fate at stake. As a matter of fact I checked Pacer tonight and realized very happily, that the trustee has withdrawn her motion to object and it has been approved and so ordered by the judge. Our discharge is finally, imminent. We used our debit card.

You dont have to use a credit card to sign up for Pacer. When you sign up you can choose to have your ID# sent to you in the mail and they will send you a bill after you reach a certain amount. I signed up and within a few days I had my Pacer number and Ive checked it almost everyday for about 3 months and just a got a bill for $40. I was a little obsessive in checking. ahahah Its worth it though.

You think that's funny Whittio? Most bk lawyers (at least by me) accept visa or master card. They advertise it in the paper and on their websites. I always got a kick out of the banks not only not getting their money but financing the debtors bk filings. It may not be very nice or fair, but it is very funny when you think about it.

Good to hear edwards2, sounds like you have some celebrating to do soon.

I signed up with my debit card also, but it was almost expired and the replacement hadn't arrived so it automatically switched me to mail bills now unless I give them my new expiration. I'd prefer the bill to come in the mail, but I wanted the faster access so it worked out well for me since I figured I wouldn't get billed before the expiration on the card. They bill quarterly and only when you hit $10 or more. If you are under $10 when the end of the quarter hits they will roll the amount over to the next quarter until your bill reaches that.

My bill with semi-frequent searches was only a couple dollars since I signed up on 6/29 until I made the mistake of searching with the trustee's name, that was almost a $9 search. It wouldn't have been so bad if my browser wouldn't have froze up when I tried to print the long list, but it turns out it was a complete waste for me then. Just be careful of your searches if you want to keep the bill down. Before that search I had only pulled up my own case and a friends to see who he had for a trustee and lawyer during his ch7 in 97 since it was so far back he forgot.

Well, I am very curious, and know I won't be able to stay away. That's scary to me. It could really add up! But I guess after we file and get the ball rolling, I'll have to do it.

It really doesn't add up too much. I check the docket on mine 2-3 times a week to see if any motions have been filed and since about july 20 I'm only up to about $2.60. Its really reasonable, don't sweat it.

Although, attorneys are not supposed to accept credit cards as payment for bankruptcy.

                        ME - I LOVE PACER!!!!!

I Know things before my lawyer does, lol........and he don't like that!!!!

When I asked him about a certain "hearing" - said what hearing???? I told him, DUH, it's on pacer......why haven't I been notified??

Caught him with his "pants down", lol......
Now he checks pacer regular on me!! He don't like me knowing things - he doesn't.....lol

I've been using Pacer over a year now and so far cost me less than $50.00....I just check every so often.....about once a week...

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

                          Debit card no reply

Yesterday I registered for Pacer using my debit card and informed I would receive an e-mail replay. A day later and still none. Is there some problem using a debit card?

My whole problem is I am to curious. I sell a home decor product, a consultant for a company, sort of like a Tupperware consultant.. anyway, I would check their site for updates about every 10 minutes! LOL so that could really stack up the fees for me. I guess I will just have to limit myself to once a day. There shouldn't be many updates right? you file, they post your BK, then post the 341 meeting. Then you're just waiting for discharge after that??

I signed up awhile ago, and I signed up with a debit card. I got an email only minutes later. You could call the 1-800 number to find out whats going on. You'll get thru really fast.
