    US Bank is certainly creative!

They called my husband at work last night and told him he couldn't file BK on a federal bank. Uh huh. DH disputed that, and the guy said he'd stolen $4,000 from the government. This was for a overdraft/line-of-credit account. My husband told him to take it to court if he wanted to, and the guy said, "Have a nice life paying off this debt. You'll never get rid of us." Then he hung up on my husband. LOL.

We know the types of dischargeable and non-dischargeable debt. Guess which one old bank accounts fall into? Duh!

Sorry, I just had to share my amusement. The sad thing is, I'm sure this tactic works on some people. They use fear and intimidation, even when someone is protected by the automatic stay. It's disgusting.

Some of these creditors/collectors sure are hilarious. It's a shame a good percentage of people are uneducated when it comes to things like this happening to them. Great for your husband to get that particular collector to hang up on him. Sort of, changing the tables on him, so to speak.

Seems like they are trying to coatails the current nationalizations in an attempt to scare people into paying.

Its just talk though, you can of course discharge such debt

US Bank are freakin crooks so I agree 100% with you! I had a $700 Line of Credit with them on a completely different account. When I filed they somehow got the USBank police and tracked down my wife knowing she also has an account with US Bank. And to satisfy their modest EGO, they found out we were joint on her account - so guess who gets the $700 loan. She did.
Rather then stoop to their level I paid the $700 but now it blemished her acct showing it was 30 days past due because of me not paying as it was under CH7.

It only gets worse with US Bank.

We had a $500 "checking account advance" loan with them. Sent it through bk, discharged....

Since we had our old checking account linked to the checking account advance, they REFUSE to close the account. I have been to several different branches and it won't close....supposedly it shows that we still "owe" the $500, so the checking account won't close.

Also had 2 credit cards with them (Platnium and Gymboree) and they continually show up on our credit reports as being "charged off". When I call to dispute, they go "well that's what charged off means. Written off in BK".

          Good luck!

US Bank ranks up there with Citi, Wells, Chase, B of A in the organized crime cults.
