    Credit before discharge?

    Hello,

I recently filed bankruptcy. My creditor meeting is October 21st. I am already eager to start rebuilding my credit. I want to get a little $200-$300 secured card from Orchard bank. My question is, should I be waiting until after discharge to get one or can I do it after the creditor meeting? I had a Orchard Bank card for over a year with perfect history and upon filing Chapter 7 I had a $0 balance and they still closed my account so I wanted to get another one after this situation.

You might get lucky applying for a secured credit card since it's not a garden variety unsecured one. You can apply for a secured one at any time.

I was approved for my unsecured Orchard card 2 weeks after my 341 meeting.

Husband was not. He was approved about 1 week after discharge.

Legally after filing bankruptcy you cannot take on new debt obligations until after discharge without the Trustees approval. It is in your best interest to wait until after discharge.
