Money for lawyer

So I think I have found my lawyer. I am in process of switching banks and getting all of the paperwork together. I am really worried about coming up with the 1500.00 to pay the lawyer though. 1500 is almost as much as I take home in a month and I still have to pay rent and my car or I will be jobless and homeless.


What have others done to come up with the money? I am so stressed and worried!!

I may lose the car anyway since the loan is with the credit union I have other debts with. If I lose my car I will be jobless

We used part of our income tax refund.

Check your phone book for a volunteer legal services or something similar. They may be able to help for free or at a reduced fee.

I skipped a month of paying everything but food and meds to pay mine. But i had to file in a hurry Do you have to? Or can you pay a little each payday
Have you stopped paying all the other creditors?
The first couple of months is a rough ride but you can do it.

Yes, the first month was really difficult fo us. Even though I was not paying the CCs any more, the money was now going to the atty. Our fee was $2,000. We found stuff we didn't need and sold it on Craigslist which covered a good portion of the atty fees.

However, if you don't have the resources to sell stuff of craigslist, try to pay a little each month. It usually takes a little while for the paperwork to even be processed by your atty. Unless you are in a hurry, just save what you can.

I had to sell off some things just to pay a stupid payday loan.

I'd say a couple of months. If you are in a state like Texas than MUCH longer. Payday loans should be illegal, all they do is dig you deeper into debt than ever before.

We just sent the lawyer a little bit a money every month, and after we gave him our retainer fee we were able to start forwarding our creditor's calls to him. It took us about 7 months to finally pay off the attorney fees.
Can you sell anything on craigslist?
Can you borrow money from family?
Do you have any old scrap metal that you can take to the junk yard for money?

You should not have to come up with the $1500 all at once. Our attorney said all we have to do is give her a $100 dollar retainer and then make monthly payments and pay as much as we can. She said she would put the money in escrow and everything would be fine as long as we paid a decent amount each month to show that we were trying.
