Filing pro se

Anybody have advice about filing pro se? I saw the link to a book (Nolo?) that looks like it might be thing thing. We went to an attorney that charges $1300 plus the filing fee, we sure don't have that kind of spare money. Our BK will be filed because we didn't finish our 13, couldn't make the payments. Now all those creditors are coming after us, so filing won't make much of an improvement in our budget, since we weren't making payments anyway. At least we haven't incurred any new debt, we just need to make the old stuff go away.

Anyway, that's why we thought about doing it ourselves. Anybody done that with success? Thanks.

We have some Pro se filers on the board that have done just fine.

When did you file your first 13, before or after October of 2005.

We filed our Ch 13 in 2004, it was for 5 years and we made thru 3-1/2.

Ok, you said you could not longer afford the payments, but what has changed? Generally, there would need to be a decrease of income if you are going to have a successful chapter 7. Do you know if you are below your state's median income?

I filed Pro-Se myself. I didnt buy any books. I just did a lot of reading online and this forum. I also bought all the paperwork and a program called formmax filler so I could fill out the forms on my laptop. The site also offered some limited advice that helped.

But if you have questions you can ask. My bankruptcy did not go perfect but the few and little mistakes I made were no big deal. I am scheduled to be discharged about the 28th of this month.
